The SCHMETZ Needle 130/705 H ALA , also known as the hemstitch needle or wing needle, is designed to create decorative openwork effects (broderie anglaise style) on loosely woven fabrics such as linen, batiste, cotton and flag fabrics. The lateral “wings” on the blade of the needle gently push the threads of the fabric, creating perfect ornamental holes directly with the sewing machine, without the need to pull the threads out by hand.

Perfect for embroidery, decorative stitching and lace appliqués, it adds a refined touch to blouses, tablecloths and tailored garments. Also ideal with shiny or multi-coloured threads for even greater visual impact.

Usage Tips:

  • Use a zigzag needle plate with a large hole and a satin stitch or zigzag foot.
  • The automatic threader is not compatible with this needle: thread by hand.
  • For a more noticeable openwork effect, match the thread color to the fabric; if you prefer to highlight the thread, use a contrasting color.
  • Stabilize lightweight fabrics with spray starch or temporary embroidery supports (tear-away, water-soluble, or heat-soluble).
  • Test a sample to adjust tension, stitch length and width.

NB: Compatible with all domestic sewing machines with the 130/705 H system. Can also be used on embroidery machines , with special files for wing needles.
