Let yourself be pampered by this new ECOFRIENDLY and SUSTAINABLE and very high QUALITY yarn. It is an exclusive product, biologically treated, light, soft and resistant. With the incredible properties of Yak, warm and breathable, light but resistant, the more you wash it, the more beautiful and fluffy it becomes! The Yak (Bos grunniens) is a bovine native to the Tibetan plateaus, characterized by its imposing size, thick fur with long dark hair and large, enlarged horns. Also called Tibetan ox, the Yak is raised in many areas of Central Asia, where it plays a fundamental role in rural subsistence economies. The domesticated species can exceed one and a half meters in height at the withers and weigh more than five quintals. The wild yak, now rare, reaches even larger dimensions, so much so that adult males can weigh more than a ton and be two meters tall at the withers. Like Cashmere goats, the Yak also originates from the Tibetan plateaus, where it lives at particularly high altitudes, around 4,000 and 6,000 metres. To adapt to the rather hostile environmental conditions, characterized by extremely low winter temperatures and strong temperature variations, the Yak has developed various adaptations, such as the reduced number of sweat glands, large heart and lungs, and a strong ability to extract oxygen from the blood. Another form of adaptation is given by the thick fur, made up of three coats, of which the innermost one (called undercoat) is thinner, warmer and fluffier. More information on www.prezzisalute.com. The hairs of the yak's innermost coat have a diameter of around 16-20 microns, comparable to that of the best quality merino wool and very close to that of Cashmere. Warm and very soft, it allows you to obtain very fine fabrics, generally dark but also light, depending on the animal's fur. The yak naturally develops this very fine wool as winter approaches and loses it in late spring/early summer; therefore, it is typically harvested in the spring before the summer molt.
