Cashmere is obtained from the fleece of the Capra hircus animal. The name derives from Kashmir, the Indo-Chinese-Pakistani territory where Europeans encountered this fiber for the first time; it is a mountainous region, where Cashmere goats protect themselves from the freezing cold thanks to the thick hair that characterizes them.
